"I love you like the sea loves the shore"
I still can't quite believe that January is already over or that it is officially 2025. Last summer was a whirlwind of weddings, of learning and creating, and ended as soon as it started. I have spent my holidays gearing up for the upcoming wedding season, and was lucky enough to land a small January wedding on the beaches of the Semiahmoo Spit in Washington.
Semiahmoo is a neighborhood in Blaine that offers 360 views of the Pacific Northwest, and includes views of Mount Baker, The Twin Sisters, as well as a picturesque sight of White Rock, Canada. You can walk the beach from Birch Bay all the way down to Semiahmoo, and then walk the entire Spit. You will find lots of bird watchers, rockhounds, as well as many retirees who regularly stay at the resort located at the end of the Spit.
This intimate wedding was held at the Semiahmoo Cannery Lodge, which is a community building located right next to the beach. My bride & groom, Chanel & Tyler, reached out to me a couple months before looking for a wedding photographer that was able to work within their budget and provide the coverage they were looking for. After chatting and figuring out what would work best for them, we agreed to a couple hour coverage- enough to cover a first look, bridal portraits, family portraits, and ceremony.
My first impression of this couple and their families was they were very tight knit and everyone had a fantastic sense of humor. They all welcomed me without a second thought, and it made our time together seamless, easy, and fun! Everyone helped where needed, and while we ran a little bit late, everyone pulled together to make a really special experience.
We started with a first look on the beach, and then moved into portraits. The love shared between Chanel & Tyler was palpable and the photos below just ooze with romance, friendship, and a trust you only find between two people who bring out the best in the other. The ceremony was held on the patio, and while it was quick, it inspired tears and laughter. Once the ceremony was over we gathered together for family photos before heading in for the reception. After stealing the rings and bouquet for a few detail shots, I thanked the bride and groom and left feeling good about my first wedding of the year.
My take away- I am no longer stressed about shooting in full sun, this wedding offered that challenge and I could not be happier with how I made it work to our advantage. I was able to use new prompts, shot new angles, and overall this step into the 2025 season was a fantastic start. I am feeling so thankful for the opportunity that Chanel & Tyler offered me, and cannot wait for all the weddings coming up. Keep scrolling to see photos from this beachy winter wedding!
I still have a few openings in June & August, as well as the fall/winter months. If you are still looking for a photographer and would like to chat about your vision, please reach out! Thanks for stopping by!
Cheers,
Kymber
